Neck Pain

Having a healthy neck  is not only vital to our comfort, but it’s necessary for everyday activities.  When experiencing neck pain, even the slightest of motions can cause a significant shooting pain that sometimes likes to linger.

Because our necks are working nearly all day (and depending on how we sleep, oftentimes nighttime, too), taking care of it should be a top priority.  Dr. Nelson provides safe and dependable care for the neck, no matter your level of discomfort.

Why Our Neck Pain Patients Come See Us

Most heads weigh about 12 pounds, which means most necks support that 12 pounds, which means necks have a big job to pull off.  The seven vertebrae in your neck are how this task is handled. If something should happen to those seven vertebrae your head, shoulders, and back are all put at risk.

Our patients often complain of these problems when they come in for a visit:

  • Loss of range of motion or flexibility

  • Difficulty sleeping

  • Discomfort while working at your desk

  • Dull pain in neck while being sedentary (driving, watching TV)

  • Pain when turning head

Knowing what can cause these issues will help support our patients with pain management and achieving their healthy body goals.

Your neck pain may be due to any of the following:

  • Repetitive activities or overuse

  • Poor posture

  • Working at a desk repetitively

  • Accidents that cause whiplash

  • Surgery

  • Text neck (looking at a device repetitively)

  • Sports or exercise

  • Daily life

Neck Pain Relief

Why It’s Important to Visit a Chiropractor for Your Neck Pain

When our bodies ligaments, joints, tendons, and muscles aren’t working together the way they’re meant to, inflammation and pain tend to come next.

If not treated, patients may experience higher levels of pain, loss of motion, or more serious injuries. Your body is built with several complex parts and all are meant to work symbiotically.

If a patient is suffering from neck pain or discomfort, visiting a chiropractor will help determine the cause of the problem and in most cases, the patient will experience fast, if not immediate, relief upon their first treatment.

Because the neck is relied upon for almost every daily activity, seeking treatment quickly is recommended.

Dr. Nelson provides neck adjustments, exercises, and stretches to his patients to help ease their pain and realign the neck (also called the cervical spine).

We suggest making an appointment to see us if you’re experiencing any of these symptoms:

  • Intense, chronic neck pain

  • Neck swelling or redness

  • Carpal tunnel syndrome

  • Weakness, tingling, or numbness of the neck

If your neck pain is recurring or lasts for over a few weeks, seeing a chiropractor should be your next move.  Carolina Active Health Chiropractic will offer you a comprehensive plan to alleviate your pain and remove the cause of it.

Where Neck Pain Originates

Oftentimes the pain in our neck stems from other places in the body, but the pain ends up resonating in the neck.  Your neck pain may be due to stress on another muscle in a completely different area of the body.

Our doctors will determine the patient’s motor patterns to find out if movement may be the cause of the neck pain, meaning we examine how the patient moves and how the body’s joints, ligaments, and muscles are working together.

Believe it or not, neck pain may be caused by improper breathing.  So, we will also examine breathing patterns to ensure the patient is breathing properly and if they aren’t, we provide them with the knowledge to do so.  Dysfunctional breathing can cause various discomforts physically, but learning proper breathing skills will also contribute greatly to relaxation of the body and mind.

Solutions to Neck Pain

Carolina Active Health Chiropractic has specific neck treatments that rid patients of pain, allowing for full range of motion and comfort to be achieved naturally, safely, and efficiently.  Our noninvasive methods never require the use of pain medication and our strategy works to find the root of the pain in order to repair it through a hands-on approach.

Some of the ways we provide solutions to your neck pain include:

Chiropractic Adjustments / Manipulation / Mobilization

Adjustments and manipulations of the neck are a safe way to reduce a patient’s neck pain.  Our doctors use this technique on the neck joints, repairing mobility and range of motion, reducing neck spasms, and relieving tension.

Dr. Michael Nelson and Dr. Kelsey Nelson are certified in providing instrument assisted adjustments, as well as hands-on spinal manipulation using the following chiropractic techniques:

Techniques include:

  • Diversified

  • Gonstead

  • Motion Palpation

  • Thompson Drop

  • Flexion and Distraction

  • Activator

  • Extremity Adjusting (legs, arms, wrists, ankles)

Active Release Techniques (ART)

ART is a massage technique that uses technology to improve muscle, tendon, ligament, fascia, and nerve problems, sometimes providing permanent results.

Functional Rehabilitation

We offer individualized rehabilitation to work in conjunction with our other treatment services to ensure a more efficient recovery.  Through healing stretches and exercises, we help the body relearn how to move in order to alleviate future issues.

Class IV Laser Therapy

Our painless and quick laser treatments are an effective way to alleviate discomfort deep within the tissue structures.  Laser therapy oftentimes provides immediate neck pain relief.

Instrument Assisted Soft-Tissue Mobilization (IASTM) / Graston Technique /  Functional and Kinetic Treatment with Rehab (FAKTR)

Carolina Active Health Chiropractic doctors use IASTM to strengthen the patient's recovery process and rehabilitation.  This instrument breaks down fascial restrictions and scar tissue to aid in quick and organic healing. These tools treat the cause of the problem as well as the pain.

Take-Home Rehabilitation

Understanding how to exercise and stretch correctly can make for excellent recovery and proactively inspire good health and a well-working body.  We will always educate our patients on how to perform their at-home exercises to help maintain their wellness goals.
